The arboreal sesarmid crab, Labuanium scandens Ng & Liu, 2003, is recorded from Ishigakijima and Iriomotejima Islands, Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan. Labuanium scandens was described and had previously been known only from Taiwan. This report represents the first record of this species from Japan and also the first record outside Taiwan. The distributional range of L.scandens is extended to the east. Morphological and ecological features of L. scandens, as well as discriminative characters with congeners, are documented.
